La Casa de Satoshi

About

La Casa is for people who take open money seriously, and themselves less so.

La Casa de Satoshi is a Bitcoin community space in Mexico City where developers, educators, founders, and the curious come to learn, build, and eat together.

The story

It started as a meetup with too many people for the café.

A handful of bitcoiners in Mexico City kept running out of room. So we rented a house, filled it with desks and a long table, and kept the door open.

Today La Casa hosts BitDevs, a monthly Bitcoin 101, hands-on workshops, visiting speakers, and a small group of members who work here every day.

It is run by volunteers and funded by memberships, donations, and friends in the industry. Every peso goes back into the space and its programs.

Our mission

Make Bitcoin education, development, and community accessible to everyone in Latin America. One meetup, one workshop, one builder at a time.

What we stand for

Four things we will not negotiate.

  1. 01

    Doors open

Anyone can walk in. Beginners sit next to core contributors and nobody checks your résumé at the door.

  2. 02

    Bitcoin only

One protocol, no tokens, no sponsors asking us to say otherwise. It keeps the conversations honest.

  3. 03

    Build in the open

Open-source code, open talks, open books. If we learn something, we write it down and share it.

  4. 04

    Spanish first

Most Bitcoin education happens in English. Ours happens in Spanish, with English when guests visit.

The space

Desks, a long table, and a lot of chairs.

A talk in the main room, audience on orange stools
The library shelf: Bitcoin books, a Trezor, and 3D-printed models
The podcast room: two microphones, mesh chairs, and orange shelves
The kitchen counter: wood cabinets, a mini fridge, and a row of painted skulls
The meeting room: long table, screen, and a whiteboard
The 3D printer in its enclosure, next to the bookshelf

Team

Volunteers, mostly. Stubborn, all of them.

La Casa runs on a small team and a lot of people who show up early to set out chairs. Here are the ones with keys.
